Senate Reconciliation Budget Looks to Be Anti-Science and Pro-Disease

Updated: Jun 13

Remaining CDC employees protest, call for RFK Jr.'s Resignation

The proposed cuts to the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are severe and could negatively impact our country for decades. As the EU, Canada and other countries ramp up efforts to attract our brightest scientific minds - nearly 300 U.S. scientists have applied to France's "Safe Place for Science" refugee program - the current reconciliation budget bill demonstrates how anti-science and pro-disease this administration plans to be.

In a recent survey by the academic journal, Nature, found nearly 75% of the researchers and scientists who responded are looking to live abroad due to T$ump's horrible policies and budget cuts. I'm surprised the bill doesn't include a "relocation credit" to help our health care workers and researchers pack up and sell their homes!

This Will Only Hurt a Little Bit

  • The NSF could see its budget slashed from nearly $9 billion to $3.9 billion

  • NIH faces a potential $17.9 billion reduction

  • Changes to tax policies could also discourage investment in research and development by companies and universities, further stifling innovation

On a positive note, remaining CDC employees are NOT standing by as this administration attempts to dismantle their vital disease research and undermine their mission to help safeguard the health of all Americans. This week, 100s of employees walked out of the Atlanta HQ to protest and demand the resignation of anti-vaxxer Health Secretary RFK Jr.

Anna Yousaf, an infectious diseases doctor at the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, called Kennedy a "domestic health threat" who has dismantled programs ranging from lead poisoning prevention to maternal and infant health monitoring.

So, take 10 minutes and call Senator Grassley and Senator Ernst, to advocate for the CDC's budget and staff to be reinstated and non-partisan, qualified medical experts to once again provide oversight of our nation's health research and policies.
